Established at VJTI, in 2001, in the name of Mr K.G. Venkataraman, an individual committed to nurturing young individuals in their pursuit of excellence, by his son Mr. Ramesh Venkataraman (alumnus of VJTI).

Ramesh graduated from VJTI in '86 majoring in Electrical Engineering. He did his Masters in Electrical Engineering from West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia and MBA from University of Maryland, College Park. After a 4 year stint at Hughes Network Systems, he worked for 2 years at Sprint designing public networks, most notable of which was the build out of AOL's network. He then worked for 3 years at Bell Atlantic and was in charge of the design and expansion of Bell Atlantic's Enterprise network. After a brief stint at Winstar, he is now with the Marketing group at Corvis, a company that builds optical networking products.

Ramesh and his wife Sudha have been involved in several philanthropic projects and believe strongly in giving back to the community and supporting environmental causes. This scholarship was established by Ramesh to honor his father Mr. K.G. Venkataraman who hails from Palakkad in Kerala and has lived in Bombay for the most part of his life. He worked for Standard Chartered Bank for the most part of his career. He was a constant source of encouragement for Ramesh during his childhood and instilled in him the sense of discipline and determination to succeed in every endeavor.

" Prakash Singh KARNA Honor Debate" - National Police Academy, Hyderabad

Established at the National Police Academy in the name of Padmashri Prakash Singh IPS (Retd), an officer known for his integrity, commitment and dedication to the country by his son Mr. Piyush Singh. The award is available to competing candidates in the Annual Debate amongst probationers of various civil srvices including the IAS, IPS, Income Tax, Central Customs and Excise, Railways, etc.

Prakash Singh has been a very distinguished police officer of the country with an excellent track record of dealing with the operational requirements for law and order and for combating domestic and international terrorism in the turbulent parts of the country. He served - and occupied the highest positions - in the most volatile areas: Nagaland, Assam, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Kashmir. He dealt with the insurgents in Nagaland, tackled the ULFA (United Liberation Front of Assam) rebels in Assam, fought against terrorism in Punjab and contributed to combating militancy in Jammu & Kashmir. The Government of India, in recognition of his contribution to national security, awarded him the 'Padmashri' in 1991.

Piyush has always been inspired by the ideals and the high standards set by his father. He is currently an Executive with an Insurance company in mid-west. He lives in Cincinnati, Ohio (USA) with his wife, Sangeeta, and two sons, Abhimanyu and Aditya.

Piyush has set up the debate to honor his father's achievements and provide an opportunity to the freshly recruited officers of the various All India and Central Services to show their oratorical skills.

"Prakash Singh KARNA Honor Scholarship" - University of Allahabad, Allahabad,

Established at Allahabad University in the name of Padmashri Prakash Singh IPS (Retd), an alumni of the University who later on rose to the highest positions in the police hierarchy of the country, by his son Mr. Piyush Singh. The scholarship is available to students entering the bachelor's program in the Arts faculty.

Shri Prakash Singh did his Bachelor of Arts in 1955 from Allahabad University with English Literature, Economics and Mathematics as his subjects and later took Masters degree in Modern Indian History in 1957. He also did a short stint as Assistant Professor of History until his selection to the Indian Police Service in 1959.

Shri Prakash Singh, at the peak of his career, became the Director General of Police Assam, Director General of Police, Uttar Pradesh and Director General of the Border Security Force. He dealt with the insurgents in Nagaland, tackled the ULFA (United Liberation Front of Assam) rebels in Assam, fought against terrorism in Punjab and contributed to combating militancy in Jammu & Kashmir. The Government of India, in recognition of his contribution to national security, awarded him the 'Padmashri' in 1991.

"Savitri Singh KARNA Honor Scholarship" - Banaras Hindu Univeristy, Varanasi


Established at BHU for girl students in the name of Mrs. Savitri Singh, who distinguished herself as a student of transparent character and integrity, firmly rooted in the finest traditions of Indian culture, by her son Mr. Piyush Singh. The scholarship is available to students joining the bachelor's program and residing in the Women's Hostel.

Mrs. Savitri Singh did her Bachelor of Arts in 1955 and Master of Arts (Hindi) in 1957 from the Banaras Hindu University, staying all along in the Women's hostel. She was married to Shri Prakash Singh, one of the distinguished police officers of the country and was a key support to his diverse and hectic career.. As a mother, she gave the best possible instructions to her two sons, Pankaj Kumar Singh and Piyush Kumar Singh, inculcating among them the highest values of morality and Indian culture.

Mrs Savitri Singh made her distinctive contribution to society as well. She was a key person in various women's welfare units across the country supporting the cause of women. She also taught for more than ten years in different colleges in Bareilly, Jhansi, Agra and Jalandhar. While in J & K, she took pains to teach Hindi to the Muslims there so as to help bring them into the national mainstream. Presently, she is teaching the under-privileged children of a school in NOIDA. Her unique style of teaching - combining the course content with moral and practical values of life - have earned her many ardent followers and shaped some brilliant careers.

Piyush has always been inspired by the very high moral and spiritual values that she personifies. He is currently an Executive with an Insurance company in mid-west. He lives in Cincinnati, Ohio (USA) with his wife, Sangeeta, and two sons, Abhimanyu and Aditya.

Piyush has set up the scholarship to honor his mother's tremendous contribution to his self, all the members of the family and also the numerous children educated by her, many of whom have already made their mark in life.

"Prakash and Savitri Singh KARNA Honor Scholarship" - Mahanagar Boys' Inter College, Lucknow

Established at Mahanagar Boys' Inter College, Lucknow in the name of Padmashri Prakash Singh IPS (Retd) and his wife Mrs. Savitri Singh, a couple committed to social causes and Indian values by their sons Mr. Pankaj Kumar Singh (alumunus of 1978) and Mr. Piyush Kumar Singh Piyush (alumnus of 1980). This scholarship is available to students entering the Intermediate program.

Shri Prakash Singh rose to the positions of Director General of Police Assam, Director General of Police, Uttar Pradesh and Director General of the Border Security Force.. The Government of India, in recognition of his contribution to national security, awarded him the 'Padmashri' in 1991.

Mrs Savitri Singh, while supporting her husband throughout his stormy career, made her own distinctive contribution to society. She taught in different educational institutions of Bareilly, Jhansi, Agra and Jalandhar and, while in J & K, took pains to teach Hindi to the Muslims there so as to help bring them into the national mainstream. Presently, she is teaching the under-privileged children of a school in NOIDA.

Pankaj and Piyush reflect the deeply Indian values of their parents, who were always an inspiration to them. Pankaj joined the Indian Police Service in 1988 and is currently DIG in CBI. His wife, Nupur Singh is a teacher at Amity International in NOIDA, and they are blessed with two daughters, Kanika and Yamini.

Piyush He is currently an Executive with an Insurance company in mid-west.  He lives in Cincinnati, Ohio (USA) with his wife, Sangeeta, and two sons, Abhimanyu and Aditya..

Pankaj and Piyush have set up the scholarship to honor their parents' contribution to the society and thereby give something back to their Alma Mater.

"Dr. T.B. Singh KARNA Memorial Scholarship" - Oak Grove School, Mussorie

Established at Oak Grove School in memory of Dr. Tej Bahadur Singh, an individual who spent his life healing others, by her daughter Sangeeta Singh (alumunus of 1983). This scholarship is available to students entering the Intermediate program.

Dr. T.B. Singh established a name for himself early in his life becoming one of the brightest students in his medical class. He wanted to serve in the government and make a difference to the common man and decided to pursue a career that would allow him to do so - he joined the medical arm of Indian Railways . He spent his entire career serving people, friends and relatives selflessly and tirelessly. Dr. T.B. Singh was a big motivator for his daughter and the major reason behind her sense of care and compassion for others. Dr. T.B. Singh had an untimely and early departure from this abode, leaving behind his wife Ahilya  and two children. Dr. Singh's love and affection for her daughter knew no boundaries, and Sangeeta is convinced that he continues to watch her daughter from his heavenly abode.

Sangeeta is currently a Mental Health and Substance Abuse therapist in Cincinnati, Ohio and lives with her husband and two boys Abhimanyu and Aditya.

Sangeeta has set up the scholarship to honor the memory of her father and thereby give back to her alma mater.

"Dr. T.B. Singh KARNA Memorial Scholarship" - King George Memorial College, Lucknow

Established at KGMC in the fond memory of Dr. Tej Bahadur Singh (alumunus of 1957), an individual who spent his life healing others, by his son Vijay Singh. This scholarship is available to students entering the MBBS program of KGMC.

Dr. T.B. Singh established a name for himself early in his life becoming one of the leading students in his medical class. He wanted to serve in the government and make a difference to the common man and decided to pursue a career that would allow him to do so - he joined the medical arm of Indian Railways. He spent his entire career serving the common man, friends and relatives selflessly and tirelessly. Dr. T.B. Singh was big motivator for his son, Vijay Singh. Dr. T.B. Singh had an untimely and early departure from this abode after his retirement from Indian Railways, leaving behind his wife and two children.

Sangeeta is currently a Mental Health and Substance Abuse therapist in Cincinnati, Ohio and lives with her husband and two boys Abhimanyu and Aditya.

Sangeeta has set up the scholarship as a tribute to her father's selfless contribution towards the healthcare needs of the common man and to help and inspire the upcoming generation of doctors
